A Fresh Look for Tolworth Station!
Updated: Nov 24, 2020
Over the past two weeks, The Community Brain team has been delighted to watch a transformation taking place at Tolworth Station. A long overdue refresh of the paintwork has restored some of the stations former glory, just in time for a new wildlife mural to be installed by fantastic local artist WeAreSkyHigh.
In July 2020 The Community Brain brought together key local stakeholders to lobby SW Railways and Network Rail for improvements to Tolworth station, including Sir Ed Davey MP, Guinness Homes, Lidl, Meadow Partners and RBK Chief Executive Ian Thomas CBE.
This was followed up with a meeting of all parties at the beginning of October at which Cllr Dunstone spoke very fervently about the need for major improvements. SW Railways and Network Rail were very receptive to our requests. Since then, the complete redecoration has been completed and good progress is being made with rewiring. A deep clean of the entire station is also scheduled and The Community Brain will be installing poster frames in the ground level passageway shortly.
All stakeholders made the case for better access to the platforms and this has resulted in a funding bid being submitted by RBK to central government under the ‘One Open Estate’ programme and we should know the outcome of that within the next few months.
One other piece of good news to come out of this closer co-operation with the railway operators; SW Railways has offered The Community Brain the land behind our shop unit at the station (Baking Ideas) in order to create a community garden. We are now drawing up detailed plans for this work and will be fund raising early in the new year.
