Mulching Around the Christmas Tree

The Community Brain would like to say a massive thank you to the fantastic runners from Goodgym Kingston who impressed us with their mulch spreading abilities on the Tolworth Broadway planters last night!

As the runners arrived to the Broadway on a cold December evening, they were met by what might appear to some as Tolworth's newest geological feature. The large woodchip mountain, which was donated by Advanced Tree Services (ATS) with the support of Andrew from council landscapers IDVerde, was to be distributed amongst our 11 Broadway benches which were planted as part of the SHEDx project over the past two years.

With the challenge accepted runners got to work mulching the planters, which will help protect the plant's roots in winter, supress new weed growth in spring and help water retention in summer.

The Community Brain wrapped 30 sets of fairy lights around trees on the Broadway last week and we hope these helped bring a bit of festive cheer to the volunteers!

Two hours later, and with a fantastic effort from the Goodgym Kingston runners, it was mission complete. Seriously impressive work from the team and we really look forward to welcoming you back to Tolworth Station in January!!
