Ziggy Returns

On Thursday 10 February 1972, David Bowie took his first steps as Ziggy Stardust on the tiny stage of The Toby Jug pub at Tolworth on the official opening night of what became a 17-month world tour for Ziggy and the Spiders from Mars. 50 years later we celebrate this momentous evening that has influenced music, fashion, design and sexuality to this day.

Battle of the Bands

Saturday 12 February 2022

The second major part of the Bowie celebrations featured a collaboration with local music charity, The Basement Door. Young musicians had been competing throughout the year in a Battle of the Bands contest, and at each stage had to perform a Bowie tune as part of their set.

We hosted the final 'Battle' as part of the Celebrate '72 festivities at Tolworth Station and were treated to phenomenal performances by emerging bands.

Launching on the concourse at Waterloo, commuters and travellers were invited to take part in a silent disco celebrating the music of David Bowie.

After the concourse celebrations, attendees made their way onto a special event train heading to Tolworth which featured live performances and talks. The carriages also showcased Bowie-inspired creative work from Kingston College students.
